Application of Laser Dentistry

What is a dental laser treatment (Laser)?

Laser treatment is used in medicine since the 60s. Until recently, the use of laser energy in dentistry was limited only in teeth whitening (bleaching) and operations on the soft tissues, but at the present time its use is applied to wider areas. With the help of new laser received by means of the combination of energy atomized water sprays and laser energy, operating on the principle of hydrogenated energy, we can easily carry out surgical operations such as on soft tissue (gums) and the hard tissue (enamel of the tooth). Some of these uses - teeth cleaning, root canal treatment, all kinds of surgical operation at the jawbone and gums, correction of the form of gums and aesthetic dentistry, treatment of sensitive teeth, brightening dark gums, herpes and the aphthae.
At the same time, the use of laser technology in the treatment by implants can simplify stage of surgical operation and save time during treatment. Due to the fact that there is no trembling when you touch the hard tissues, anesthesia isn’t necessary during shallow intervention. The use of lasers extends to all age categories in which there is fear of the dentist. Surgical operations on the soft tissues without blood, a rapid recovery – are great advantages of laser treatment.

The laser is able to prepare perfectly the surface of the tooth for porcelain laminate veneers
Laser dentistry is completely reducing the treatment time, provides greater success with less effort.

Laser use, popularly referred to as laser filling, and should not to be confused with composite fillings put by light source.

The advantages of laser treatment and areas of its application.

  • Dental Laser of new generation gives an opportunity to work without touching the teeth and other tissues. There is no necessity to do anesthesia, because of the fact that there is no pain because of the heat, trembling and rubbing. The laser beam, connecting with the beam emerging from the device (hydrokinetic energy) is transmitted to the tissue.

  • Operational intervention which is required in preparing of the external structure (separation of the gum to the implantation of the implant) in the use of implant treatment with laser is simplified and reduced in time.
  • 100% disinfection and sterilization in the area where the laser was used is provided, so that the recurrence of infections is prevented.
  • During surgical operations with laser, there can be not blood at all or a small quantity of it. . The probability of complications, tumors and worries after any surgical operation decreases that provide fast healing.

  • Teeth whitening using laser technology in a very short time. You can achieve even better results.
  • In practice, there are patients whose purple color in gums genetically elevated (hyperpigmentation). This problem can be solved with 3-4 sessions of laser peeling (removal of the surface of the gums).
  • Also used in the treatment of wounds in soft tissue and gums. Fibromas formed in oral cavity (Harmless pathological changes in tissue) can also be removed with a laser.
  • To reduce the risk of loss in aesthetic dentistry the surface of the tooth must be erode by laser before sticking on tooth crowns, ceramic laminates, empress and zirconium crowns.

SGeneral information about the use of lasers in dentistry
Name of the laser is determined by the name of the crystal, in which it is used. These crystals are not only gave the name of the laser, but also determines the length of the laser beam. The main lasers used in dentistry - Nd YAG laser, Diod Laser. We can also list the Erbium laser, CO2 laser and KTP. Length of the laser beam determines the field in which it is used.

Nd YAG lasers
The most successful laser in dentistry - laser Nd YAG. The main specialization of this laser - Sterilization: Sterilization of canals, treatment of canals, abscess, hard-infected canals and problems associated with gums, easily treated by Nd YAG laser. The principle of laser Nd YAG: Due to the fact that the zone of action of the laser is approximately 1 ml, it operates only on the tooth and the inner tissues and thus has no effect on the surrounding tissue. This laser has only one problem - it is very expensive. Unfortunately there is no such kind of laser in each clinic.

Lasers Diod
There is another type of laser, Diod laser which operating principle is similar to the principle of the Nd YAG laser. In comparison with the Nd YAG laser, a Diod Laser has Diod lamp instead of laser crystal. Because of this it has a reasonable price and thus more common in dental clinics. Action of the laser inside the tissues is 05ml, twice less than that of Nd YAG laser. Another negative feature of Diod laser is large quantity of heat, which it produces during surgical procedure and it can damage the teeth and surrounding tissues. If the doctor, working with this laser, will be attentive and accurate, he can achieve good results.

 Erbium Lasers
Laser containing Erbium crystals. It is a dental laser used for the painless treatment of the cavity of decay. This laser has a unique feature, with which he can distinguish healthy tooth tissue from destruction - tooth caries, thus it affects only the diseased tissue. Erbium laser create maximum comfort for patients.

CO2 lasers
CO2 lasers are often used in surgery to cut tissue. But the operating surgeon should be more careful to use this laser. Wounds and cuts that is made by this laser heal very slowly. It has the effect of carbonization on the surface of the notch.CO2 lasers should be used only by specialists.
